W Nowym Orleanie urodził się Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong, trębacz, pieśniarz jazzowy, kompozytor i najpopularniejszy muzyk w historii jazzu. To on właśnie wynalazł 'scat singing' czyli śpiewanie bez słów. Miało to miejsce w 1927 roku, kiedy w czasie nagrywania piosenki zgubił kartkę z tekstem. Jego największe przeboje to "Hello Dolly" (1964) i "What A Wonderful World" (1968). Kilkukrotnie przyznawano mu nagrodę Grammy. Zmarł ''6 lipca 1971 roku.
